2016 NH Progressive Summit Saturday June 25th Southern New Hampshire University In Manchester

From GSP:

We are excited to announce that the 2016 NH Progressive Summit will be Saturday, June 25th at Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester!

Co-hosted by Granite State Progress and the NH Citizens Alliance for Action, along with many other sponsoring organizations, this annual event provides space for new and existing activists to come together and hear from inspiring speakers, as we collectively learn, train, and mobilize for the many issue and electoral challenges and opportunities we face together.

Last year’s NH Progressive Summit theme was “Investing in Our Future.” This year’s theme is “Standing on the Brink.” Our state and country are at a critical juncture, and the decisions we make in the near future will have lasting implications for the legacy we leave behind us. Whether it’s advancing pro-active legislation at the state and federal level, guarding against conservative rhetoric, or challenging corporate political corruption of our legislative and electoral process – the 2016 NH Progressive Summit will confront the diverging paths forward and what we can do.

The 2016 NH Progressive Summit will be a jam-packed, action-oriented, day-long event, with workshops and fabulous speakers – you won’t want to miss it! Registration is $25 per participant for a full day or $15 for a half day in advance or $35 at the door, with a limited number of scholarships available.

More information will be available shortly. In the meantime, visit the NH Progressive Summit website to learn more about past summits, or to get registered. See you there!

In progress,

Recap And Photos- Moose Mountain Area Democrats Daylilies & Democrats Event

This past weekend Moose Mountain Area Democrats hosted their annual Daylilies & Democrats

get together in Brookefield. The weather that day was wet and dreary for most of the day, which hampered turnout, but everything seemed to clear up once the event was to start and the sun actually came out later on. The Daylilies are a dreamlike firework show that would dazzle just about anyone, but the real stars of the event are the people who attend each year. There is a lovely buffet and more delicious, food than you could ever eat. The Hilary, Bernie, and O'Malley campaigns were there and each only spoke briefly, which was fine. Two other speakers that were great crowd pleasers were the always energetic Carol Shea Porter and the witty John R. White. Both kept their addresses short and to the point. If you missed the event this year, don't fret, it is held around the same time each year, so plan ahead and save the space on your 2016 calendar. I hope you enjoy the photos!

View all the photos.

Seventy people gathered at the Old Farmington Town Hall, on Saturday May 24th to honor two long time public servants, Leo Lessard from Milton and Ron Chagnon from Farmington.  The occasion was first Tri-town Honors dinner hosted by the Democratic Committees of Farmington, Milton and New Durham.

Congresswoman Carol Shea Porter spoke to the gathering urging them to stay involved in the political process, because it does make a difference.  There are real differences between the two parties.  Not all the wrangling in Washington is simply partisan.  She stressed that Democrats should stand up for what they believe, so people can hear the Democratic message and make decisions on the issues, and not just sound bites.

The crowd enjoyed a fine buffet dinner provided by the Portable Pantry and supplemented by appetizers and desserts from kitchens in the three towns. .  After dinner, Ron Chagnon was honored for his years of service to his community, county and state, while standing firm as a Democrat in Farmington  when Democrats were a distinct minority.  Ron accepted the award and regaled the audience with a story of meeting Steven King at an event and not knowing who it was until afterwards.  Leo Lessard appeared by video and spoke movingly of his strong ties to the community of Milton, NH.   The video can be seen on the websites of the Farmington, Milton, and  New Durham Democratic committees.  Leo’s son John accepted the award for him.

After the awards, raffle baskets from each of the three town committees were awarded:  maple products basked from New Durham contributed by State Senate Candidate Rich Leonard; multiple items and gift certificates from Famington and from Milton. In addition to local l Democrats, Sheriff David Dubois, County Attorney Tom Velardi, and County Commissioner George Maglarss attended along with a number of State Representatives from around Strafford County.
