Strafford Dems Presentation- School Funding & Property Tax 101- Tuesday, March 3rd, 7PM

The Strafford Town Democratic Committee will host a presentation by Attorney Andru Volinsky on the topic of "School Funding & Property Taxes in New Hampshire" on Tuesday, March 3, at 7:00 p.m. at the Hill Library (1151 Parker Mountain Road) in Strafford, NH.

 Mr. Volinsky was the lead attorney in the landmark Claremont school funding case. He is talking to people throughout the state with the goal of informing New Hampshire citizens about the current school funding system and the inequities it imposes on students, property taxpayers, and the economies of many local communities.

Local Event February 26th- #RochesterNH #Democrats Celebrate #YearOfTheWoman

Hi All: The Rochester Democrats are celebrating "The Year of the Woman" by presenting "Women in Leadership".    


These presentations are free, non-political and open to the public. The series will be kicked off on Tuesday, February 26th at the Rochester Public Library. 

 The first speaker is Dr. Jocelyn Caple, CEO of Frisbie Memorial Hospital in Rochester. Dr. Caple will discuss the challenges she faced as she rose from the lab to CEO of Frisbie Memorial Hospital.

“The Devil We Know” (2018) is a documentary showing the impact of citizens in West Virginia when they take on a powerful corporation for dumping toxic chemicals in the water supply. A discussion of the film will be led by Mindi Messmer, an environmental scientist from Rye, NH, where she is known for identifying a double cancer cluster in a 5-town area of the NH seacoast, drinking water protection and promoting cancer prevention.

Wait until you hear how her discovery unfolded!

 The environment was listed as one of the top concerns at our January meeting. NH has the highest rates of breast cancer, bladder cancer and esophageal cancer in the nation. We will learn what is happening around the state and what we can do to advocate for stronger environmental protections.

Kristy Martino, U.S. Poverty Grassroots Organizer from RESULTS, will describe her group’s work to train volunteers to advocate for education, health, and economic opportunity by influencing policy makers.  RESULTS can provide training and research for action.

TriTown Dems To Host Bill Duncan From NH Board Of Education Sept 10th


TriTown Democrats to Host Bill Duncan from the New Hampshire State Board of Education on September 10, 2015.
New Durham, New Hampshire  - August 24, 2015 - The TriTown Democrats, representing the Democratic Committees of Farmington, Milton, and New Durham, is proud to host Bill Duncan, member of the NH State Board of Education, to give a talk on the state of Education in New Hampshire.  The event will take place at 7:00 PM on September 10 at the New Durham Library, 2 Old Bay Rd, New Durham.
The State Board of Education (SBE) is a seven-member body whose members serve without pay except for reimbursement of expenses incurred in the performance of their duties.  Members cannot be technical educators or professionally engaged in school work. Members are appointed by the governor and executive council.  Five are selected, one each, from the five executive councilor districts and two are selected from the public at large. Except when appointed to fill the unexpired term of a previous member, members serve for a five-year term and may serve up to two consecutive terms. The Board must hold at least six regular meetings a year.
Bill Duncan is a retired technology entrepreneur and the founder of Advancing New Hampshire Public Education (www.anhpe.org), dedicated to advocating for public education in the State. Born in Boston, he graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy and served in Vietnam as an advisor to the Vietnamese Navy before starting a business and nonprofit career.  He founded, and for 12 years led, the Mountain Association for Community Economic Development, a leading economic development organization creating jobs and housing for low-income families in Central Appalachia. In that role, he organized 100 Eastern Kentucky banks to provide subsidized financing housing for low-income families in Central Appalachia and founded Forward in the Fifth, the first education advocacy organization dedicated to building common ground among parents, administrators and teachers in hard-pressed mountain schools. Mr. Duncan moved to New Hampshire in 1986 and resides in New Castle.
The TriTown Democratic Committee advocates for strong local support of our communities, and supports legislation and candidates that are community minded.  Their activities provide political, economic, and social information for the citizens of the three towns, but also encourages progressive movements in these areas at all levels of government.  Through community involvement, political action, and a shared vision, the group seeks to expand equity and opportunity for all residents of the Towns of Farmington, Milton, and New Durham.

Tri-Dems Meeting Feature, Rep. Jackie Cilley, A Local Hit


Former candidate for Governor, Representative Jackie Cilley was our featured speaker for March. We've had Jackie speak to us many times and  she is always a dynamic speaker with a good sense of humor and this visit was no exception. Yesterday, just before Jackie spoke with us, she was defending a bill she sponsored to establish a living wage in New Hampshire of $14.25.  As you may know, that bill did not pass, but that did not dampen her passion for this bill or her resolve to champion it so that more people in New Hampshire can live with their families above the poverty line and off state assistance, saving the taxpayers money. She also spoke with us about other important issues for this legislative session. She has some great ideas for the future and we were very happy to discuss them with her. Afterward, Milton had their caucus and the rest if us enjoyed the bountiful appetizers and deserts we provided for the event.  We look forward to having Jackie back again in the near future.  She is always a favorite in our group.

Jackie is a dynamic and inspirational individual who has visited our committee many times in the past, and will be talking with us about the current Legislative Session.
