SCDC Meeting Wednesday, May 17th Rollins House, Governor's Inn

To All from the Strafford County Democratic Committee EC:

On Wednesday, May 17, the SCDC will meet at the Rollins House at the Governor's Inn on Wakefield Street in Rochester, New Hampshire at 6:30pm. A SCDC EC meeting will be held just before the regular meeting(6pm). At the regular meeting we will be discussing the specifics of the coordinated campaign with Erin Turmelle and ask that any of you who participated attend with your comments and questions about how we can be more effective in the future. We also hope to hear from Harman as to his plans for canvassing this coming year.

We will be staffing our standing committees and committees for upcoming events. You need not be a member of the SCDC EC to participate in these committees.

Finally, we will schedule a workshop to discuss how we can capitalize on the results of our recent survey to set the direction of our committee during the next two years.

We look forward to seeing you there.

SCDC May 2017 Caucus Written Recap & Photos

On Saturday the SCDC had their caucus for electing officers to the county committee for the upcoming cycle. It was well attended and was conducted very efficiently. It was wonderful to connect with so many local, progressive activists. Several members including myself, were not interested in running for another term. I've served several times over the years and though I think it is a very important time to be on the SCDC, I don't have the time to put toward this year's very ambitious response to the challenges we face in Strafford County. We need people who can make that commitment and pull everything together.

SCDC Meeting Wed April 26th-SCDC Caucus Saturday May 13th

From the SCDC EC:

Please join us for a meeting of the SCDC on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 in the large upstairs room at the Durham Public Library at 6:30 pm.  At that time we are hoping to have Amy Kennedy, new NHDP Chair and other NHDP officials present to answer any questions you may have about the NHDP in the upcoming year.
Also, be sure to mark your calendars for the Strafford County Caucus to be held Room 323, McConnell Center, Dover on Saturday, May 13, 2017 from 9:30 am to 11:00 am.

Tri Town Meeting Feb 9th, 7 PM-Guest Speaker Olivia Zink, from Open Democracy

Update:

Hi folks,

In lieu of the weather predictions for tomorrow, we think it wise to cancel our TriTown Dems Meeting on Thursday, February 9.

We will email out the agenda with some notes and have a few questions for you, so you won't be totally off the hook for participation and sharing of ideas!  But we do want everyone to be safe from driving in the predicted, and sometimes unpredictable, weather.

As we are developing that agenda and notes to share, please send me any items or notes you would like to be included for either notice or discussion.

As always, if you have any questions, please let me know.

Stay safe in the storm.

Our next scheduled meeting will be on February 9th, at 7:00 PM in Milton at the Emma Ramsey Center. Our speaker will be Olivia Zink, from Open Democracy. She will speak about voting rights and campaign finance reform.

About Open Democracy:

Founded in 2009 by renowned reformer Doris “Granny D” Haddock (1910-2010), Open Democracy is leading the New Hampshire movement to strengthen democracy and stop the corrupting influence of special interest money in politics. Over the past five years, we have educated and engaged thousands of New Hampshire citizens through nonpartisan grassroots campaigns, film and theatrical events, a national speaker series, research and publications, and local and state advocacy initiatives. In 2014, we partnered with citizens in 52 New Hampshire towns to pass warrant articles calling for an end to corporate and union spending in political campaigns under Citizens United.

Tri Town Dems Meeting December 8th, 7PM in New Durham

Our next scheduled meeting will be on December 8th, at 7:00 PM in New Durham at the New Durham Library. Brian Hawkins, head of government relations from the State Employees Association, SEIU local 1984, will be our guest to give us his take on state government and where we are headed.

As an FYI, we lost a great activist on November 18.  Lenore Ekwurtzel, who was an avid campaigner for Democratic candidates, most recently, Hillary Clinton, and a beloved member of our TriTown group, died November 18.  She will be missed by all. There was a Memorial Service Saturday, December 3, 2016, at St. John's United Methodist Church in Dover, N.H., followed by a reception in the church's fellowship hall.

As you prepare for the holidays, give some thankful and positive thoughts for Lenore.  Read about her life through her obituary at:

Join The Conversation-Thursday 4-9-15 5:30-7pm Rochester Public Library

From NH Citizens Alliance:

NH Citizens Alliance is launching our second round of Community Conversations on the subject of NH's Budget featuring budget expert Jeff McLynch of NH Fiscal Policy Institute.

Up Coming Community Conversation : more towns to be confirmed soon!

Thursday 4/9/15 5:30-7pm Rochester Public Library, 65 South Main St. Rochester, upstairs meeting room

We want to hear from you! What are your concerns? What action can you take? Go to this link to let us know you are coming: http://goo.gl/forms/Nnv0EUilU8

To set the stage and provide some critical background information, Jeff McLynch of the NH Fiscal Policy Institute will do a short presentation and be available to join the conversation. Jeff is very knowledgeable of the complexities of the NH Budget and the budget process so is an invaluable addition to the conversation, being able to answer many questions that we, as the general public, probably do not know.

We respectfully request that you pre-register for the event by going to this link: http://goo.gl/forms/Nnv0EUilU8

The budget process for NH is underway. The Governor has proposed her budget. The NH House of Representatives has proposed their budget that most believe to be irresponsible to the people of NH. The budget process has now crossed over to the NH Senate. It is important that Granite Staters have some knowledge of this process, of the proposed cuts and know what action they may be able to take during this critical part of the cycle.

A petition was presented to the House on 4/1/15 with over 800 signatures. It is not too late to add your name: Petition Text: We call on members of the state House & Senate to pass a responsible, balanced budget that protects taxpayers without sacrificing the essential programs and services New Hampshire families and communities depend on for our health, safety, and quality of life.

Local Workshop-July 12th 9:30-12:30, Creating A Cohesive Message

We invite you to a Candidate Training Workshop on Saturday, July 12, 2014, from 9:30 - 12:30 PM at the Emma Ramsey Center, Route 125, in Milton. Sponsored by The Tri Town Democrats (Farmington, Milton, and New Durham)

Creating a Cohesive Candidate Message that Attracts and Keeps Voters
Candidates for local office often struggle with how to craft messages that will resonate with their potential voters. The broad messages at the national level can help but also can drown out your campaign and leave voters in the dark about who you really are as a candidate and as a person. In this workshop, you will explore how to use the progressive narrative to craft positive messages that will not only resonate with voters but also will showcase your values as a candidate. You will be able to use your messages to give short speeches, develop candidate introductory flyers, add content to your website or Facebook page, and write effective and positive letters to the editor. This workshop is appropriate for all candidates, campaign managers, campaign volunteers, and anyone interested in developing a positive message that promotes an America that works for all of us.

Light refreshments will be served.
