Rich Leonard Announces for Senate District 6 Race

Milton, NH – Rich Leonard of New Durham announced Wednesday that he will seek election to New Hampshire’s District 6 State Senate seat. NH Senate District 6 encompasses the communities of Alton, Barnstead, Farmington, Gilmanton, Rochester, and New Durham.

Rich Leonard
“It’s time the families and businesses in the Senate District 6 had a State Senator who shares their values and will work hard to represent them in a civil and bi-partisan manner,” said Leonard, a moderate Democrat, in making the announcement. “In the State Senate, I will work across party lines to strengthen New Hampshire’s economy, build stronger schools and keep college affordable. I will also strive to promote opportunities for working families and defend taxpayers.”

Rich opposes a state income and sales tax. He vigorously supports Community College programs, such as Great Bay in Rochester, that work with local businesses to train workers for living wage careers. He is a strong advocate of student voting rights. He will work for expanding renewable energy and the protection of New Hampshire’s natural resources.

Leonard is a practicing Pharmacist in Alton, NH. He also serves as a member of the Strafford County Public Health Advisory Council-Executive Committee and the Strafford County UNH Cooperative Extension Service Advisory Council. Prior to moving to New Durham, he lived in Rochester for 26 years. Rich is also the owner of Miller Farm that provides apples, peaches, and maple syrup to the District. He holds a B.S. (1975) from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. Widowed in 2011, he has four children and eight grandchildren.
